A ripe red fruit, good eaten as it is and better cooked down. Also the source of its own seeds.
A vine crop trained up a stake. The only red fruit in the garden — green ones stay on the vine; pick them once they colour. First seeds come from wild tomato in a savanna.
Obtaining
- Harvested from Tomato Plant
Generation
- Wild patch: savanna
Ecological basis
Tomato originated in the South American Andes, and escaped plants occupy warm open ground, roadsides and woodland edges. Savanna represents a bright, seasonally dry site.
Usage
Training it up a stake
Stand a stake beside the sown plant and the vine climbs it and sets fruit. Nets and trellises work too, and with open air below a trellis the fruit hangs.
